Tonight's American Idol...

So, have you just been anxiously awaiting my opinion? Yeah, I didn’t think so, but here it is, anyway!

Round One:

Bo sang “Long, Long Road”. Not my song. It seemed to take a really long time for him to “get into it”. And he was pitchy, which surprised me. After hearing all the songs, I’m not sure that they could hear their monitors. Of course, it could also be nerves. That theater is huge! It also sounded a little too low for his range at the beginning. I just don’t think he cared for the song very much.

Carrie sang “Inside Your Heaven”. This song was better suited to her, I think. It also sounded like it was outside of her range at the beginning. Too low. And she was pitchy the first time she sang the chorus. Again, I think it was nerves and not being able to hear the monitor.

Round Two:

Bo sang “Vehicle”. He sang it better this time than on the 70’s show. All I could concentrate on while he sang it was, ‘Wow, his hair’s pretty tonight.’ Sorry. But he did perform it very well. And I dug the way the stage was set up.

Carrie sang “Independence Day”. First of all, this is a hard song to sing. Martina McBride floors me when I hear her perform it. I think Carrie gives the song justice. I noticed tonight, especially on this song, that she would be pitchy on the beginnings of notes, and adjust mid-note. One thing that was bothering me, which Simon commented on, was how strained her voice sounded. I wonder. She was reminding me more of Leann Rimes than Carrie Underwood tonight. Which isn’t necessarily a bad thing, but she’s Carrie, not Leann. She has a perfectly lovely voice without emulating someone else. Of course, again, it could be nerves.

Round Three:

Bo sang “Inside Your Heaven”. Still pitchy. I really think the monitors had something to do with it. He was a little slow warming up, but when he got into it, he tore this song up. Very good.

Carrie sang “Angels Brought Me Here”. I loved how she performed this song. It could have been written for her. Still a couple of sour notes that she adjusted while singing them, but she performed this song very, very well.

This is my commentary, and opinion, on tonight’s performances. Keep in mind, I love both performers. I’ll probably buy both of their albums when they come out. I know who I think should win, but I’m not gonna tell you. You’ll have to guess. I voted tonight, and actually got through, which was a first. At least, the getting through part. I’ve tried to vote many times, and got a busy signal. Oh, well. I got to vote when it counted. I wonder how close the vote is going to be this time.

By the way, I wanna see Bo perform "Break On Through to the Other Side" just once. He would ROCK! But that's neither here nor there.
